Facing a health challenge is tough. Getting care should be easy. ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain was created to be just that, offering all the specialized care patients need under one roof in a facility that’s designed for comfort and ease.
From the beginning of a visit to the end, the center provides amenities that simplify the care journey. The convenience can begin with using MyThedaCare to schedule or pre-register for appointments. To bypass check-in entirely, patients can arrive themselves via the MyChart smartphone app 30 minutes prior to their appointment.
Upon arrival at the center, valet service is available to make getting into the building easier. Once inside, a concierge is available to answer questions and help direct patients and families. Those who still need to check in can do so at self-service kiosks for a quick, contactless experience. Checking in with a staff member is always an option as well.
The center delivers a full range of services, from orthopedic walk-in care to outpatient offerings to surgery and inpatient care. And unlike many other health care settings, providers come to the patient, not the other way around.
David Corso, Vice President of ThedaCare Medical Center-Orthopedic, Spine and Pain, says consolidating services in one building leads to an easier care journey.
“There’s a lot of complement to the services offered, where sometimes one discipline is all that’s needed to help the person, and sometimes it’s more than one discipline. That’s the benefit of having all these clinical services under one roof,” he says.
Inpatient services
As the baby boomer population ages and people remain active longer in their lives, the demand for orthopedic and spine surgery is increasing.
“Joint replacements, specifically for hip and knee, are increasing exponentially in our country,” Corso says.
For patients who do need surgery, the center simplifies the experience. It offers lab services onsite; cutting-edge diagnostic technology, including 3T MRI machines, which offer faster scan times; and robotic-assisted surgery for minimally invasive procedures with faster recovery times and better outcomes.
The ThedaCare Surgery Optimization & Coordination Center offers specialized services for high-risk individuals. Patients in the program work with a surgery care manager, who helps navigate the path from the decision to have surgery all the way to post-operative needs.
After a procedure, patients recover in private rooms that are equipped with tablets that allow them to communicate with their care team, review education on their medical diagnosis or surgical procedure, track medications, and order their meals ahead of time.
Prior to departure, caregivers work with patients in a simulation living space to ensure they are ready for the tasks that come with a return to home life. With the Meds to Beds program through the center’s onsite pharmacy, patients will have all the prescriptions they need before leaving. Patients and families can even order prepackaged frozen meals to take home with them.
Outpatient services
Whether an individual is completing rehabilitation after surgery, receiving treatment for a pain issue or recovering from an injury, the center offers a wide range of services.
The outpatient therapy services area offers physical therapy, occupational and hand therapy, vestibular rehabilitation therapy, dry needling, post-concussion rehabilitation, splinting, running gait analysis, and fittings for custom-made orthotics.
The center also offers sports-specific simulation areas for individuals recovering from injuries and looking to return to their activities. It includes a turf space for sports like football and soccer; net cages for baseball, softball and golf; a hardwood court for sports including basketball and volleyball; and a warm-water pool for aquatic therapy.
For individuals facing pain problems, specialists offer a range of services, including cognitive behavior therapy, aquatic therapy and injections. Intravenous lidocaine and ketamine infusions also are available for treating complex pain patients.
No matter the care need, Corso says the center’s people, processes and technology are all designed to put the patient first.
“The goal is that when patients need orthopedic, spine or pain care in our community, ThedaCare — along with our partners at Neuroscience Group — is the only place they think of.”
